Abu Dhabi
Another early morning, starting with breakfast and an on-time pickup.
Our guide, Rajesh, met us at the hotel. We were very early into our trip when we realized he was kind, and thoughtful guy. He was also excited to show us Abu Dhabi for the day. Rajesh is from India and he immediately put us at ease.
Our first stop was a surprise..Last Exit. A creatively designed rest stop with food, fuel, and restrooms…almost like food trucks reimagined. We weren’t there long, but it left an impression. Unexpected and fun.

It was Friday, and timing was everything. The priority was the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque 🕌, which closes to the public at noon for prayer. We were prepared and properly dressed, ready for the experience.

After walking a short distance in the mall, our tickets were scanned and then we cleared security, before arriving at the mosque. The architecture is stunning—handcrafted details everywhere, eleven years in the making. It’s impossible not to pause and take it in. The scale, the symmetry, the care in every surface. An unforgettable sight.

From there, we drove to Qasr Al Watan, the active Presidential Palace. Along the way, we rode along the street where the royal family and appointed members live. Palaces and perfectly kept grounds lined the road…breathtaking even from the car.

The palace itself was grand in a different way. Elegant, intentional, and clearly built with pride. Throughout the day, one thing became clear: this country values quality, and it shows in everything they build.

Lunch was a brief stop at a food court, offering familiar American dishes, just enough to refuel.
Next was Heritage Village, a quick look at the UAE’s more modest beginnings. Simple, informative, and grounding after the scale of the morning.

A market stop was next up on the map. A chance to sample Arabic coffee, dates, and Dubai chocolate. So delicious. We couldn’t resist bringing some home.

The final stop of the day was iconic: Louvre Abu Dhabi. A long day by this point, but memorable in every way.

Abu Dhabi was full, layered, and thoughtful.
A day that was filled with a lot, and gave just as much in return.
